Making Fun Of Snowboarding

YoBeat is has quickly become one of my favorite snowboarding sites. Their tagline is ‘Making Fun of Snowboarding Since 1997′. I especially think the “High Fives with Todd Richards” is hysterical and any interview or article on or by him is fantastic. Check out his thoughts on the Somali pirates.

NYS Ski Tax Defeated

Thankfully, back on March 11, Governor Paterson renounced his support for the NYS Recreation Tax (Ski Tax) which is covered here at. The federal government is proposing tax cuts to help the current economy. He seems to have things ass-backwards. People need outlets and stress reduction and for some outdoor recreation is it. Why make it harder to enjoy life in such tough times? I can not wait to get out of New York, just a few more years.

Major Problems and a Site Overhaul

If anyone has made an attempt to come back after my long disappearance, I thank you. Something that is still completely confusing happened to my blog. I have it fixed now because I basically reinstalled Wordpress. Oh what fun.

My main point here is that I want to turn this into more of a photo blog. It is going to be mostly on snowboarding I hope, but I (like most people), have other interests. Look for a revamp in the upcoming weeks and some actual content now that I’m live again!

NYS Wants to Tax Your Active, Healthy Lifestyle

I’ve been hearing all these weird laws and taxes proposed recently, but this one just pisses me off. Governor Paterson of NY wants to basically tax any and all recreation. This includes ski area lift tickets, campgrounds, climbing areas, golf courses, beaches, swimming pools, athletic fields, gyms, race tracks, theaters, fairs and more. He is proposing a 4% state tax which can be expanded to include county tax which will easily reach 8%.

I find this absurd. The state, and the country for that matter, talk excessively about people’s health and obesity, and now, they want to tax those who do stay active and healthy. I am canceling my gym membership come Daylight Savings Time because I can workout outside, after work, and save money. I only really need it during the winter and even then, I might be able to swing working out at home with all the snowboarding I do. They shouldn’t make it harder to enjoy and afford a healthy, active lifestyle.

I don’t actually know if any other states already impose a ‘recreation tax,’ but if anyone else knows, enlighten me. Also, if you feel the same way me and many other NY skiers and riders do, help us out.

I Might Be Stuck On The East Coast This Year

Monday was like any other Monday. Exhausting and painfully slow. After a weekend of riding, I needed a little more than 7 hours of sleep. Everything was going pretty smoothly, I was even looking up flight and hotel prices to Park City, until I got the email. The email pretty much ruined my day and everyone else’s in my department.
